Sallisaw Pathfinders were busy during October with
Induction, can collecting, a Fall Festival,
and a field trip to earn the Orienteering honor, among other
things. But the event that
surprised everyone the most was a bike-a-thon. At the first meeting, Director B.J. got the kids
excited about going to Osh Kosh. Club
members started coming up with ideas to raise money for the trip and a
parent suggested a bike-a-thon. Although
several of the Pathfinders didn’t even own bikes, they were excited
about the idea and promised to find sponsors.
They promptly got busy asking friends, parents’ co-workers,
church members, and calling relatives. When the day of the event arrived, a church member
lent bikes for those without them, and the group of 13 Pathfinders and
two adults rode a combined total of 265 miles.
The club finished the day off with lunch and a swim party at a
club member’s home and then went home to begin the work of collecting
their pledges. Less than a
month later, the money is (mostly) all in; the club raised over $1,000
to buy tickets for Osh Kosh! This is the first year for Sallisaw’s Pathfinder Club and it has been truly blessed by the support from their church family. Members have been generous with time on Sabbath mornings, regular offerings to the Pathfinder Osh Kosh fund, loose offerings to the youth fund, camping equipment, bike-a-thon pledges, and more. If any one has an idea on great ways to say “Thank you!” we would really like to hear about it. Thanks!
