PATHFINDER  PINE  CAR  DERBY
March 24 (After Bible Bowl Saturday Evening)

New this Year:  Longest Pine Wood Derby track in Oklahoma!!   - Over 64 feet !!

There will be two categories for pinewood cars:

·     Original cars are those that are purchased as a block of wood and then are cut, carved or decorated.

·        Kit cars are purchased from hobby stores and are a preformed piece of wood usually in the shape of
           a wedge or car.

 

Pinewood Derby Rules for Pathfinders

All cars must pass inspection to qualify for the race. The inspection covers:

  1. The car must have been made during the current Pathfinder year (Aug 06-Feb 07) *Cars entered last year are not eligible.
  2. The width of the car shall not exceed 2 3/4 inches.
  3. The length of the car shall not exceed 7 3/8 inches, nor can it be any shorter than 1/2 inch of original length
  4. The weight of the car shall not exceed 5 ounces.   
  5. Axles, wheels and body wood shall be as provided in the kit.
  6. Wheel bearings, washers and bushings are prohibited.
  7. The car shall not ride on any kind or type of springs.
  8. Any details added must be within length, width and weight limits.
  9. The car must be freewheeling, with no starting devices.
  10. No loose materials of any kind (such as lead shot) are allowed in the car.
  11. The racer's name must be written on the bottom of the car.
  12. The distance between the wheel (front & back) should not be changed from original kit

 

Each club should designate a Race Official, whose job will be to make sure your club adheres by these rules, and is responsible for their club's cars meeting the weight specifications.  (There will be a random checking of cars from each club,  if any of your cars fails inspection, then all your club’s cars will be examined)

 

Race officials please have prepared all your racer’s names, category (Original or Kit) and what grouping they are in (Jr Pathfinders (10-12), Teen Pathfinders or Staff).  Please turn in this information on a piece of paper to John Flores after the Bible Bowl.

Pine Car Derby Categories

This year, the Pine Car Derby for Pathfinders will have two categories: Original Cars and Kit Cars.

Original cars:
are those that are purchased as a block of wood and then are cut, carved or decorated.  The cars may be block shaped or may have a precut section.
Costs: $2-$4.
Some original car kits have nails or axles.  Use what came with the kit

Kit cars:
are purchased from hobby stores and are a preformed piece of wood usually in the shape of a wedge or car that can be decorated.  Some of the precut designs are shown below. Costs: $5-$10.
